Steel Billets / Semi-finished Steel
Billets and blooms: semi-finished steel of rectangular or square section where the width is less than twice the thickness, containing by weight less than 0.25% carbon.
Overview
HS 720711 covers semi-finished products of iron or non-alloy steel containing by weight less than 0.25 per cent of carbon, of rectangular including square cross-section, where the width measures less than twice the thickness. In practice this is the billet and bloom category, the feedstock that re-rolling mills convert into long products. It is distinct from HS 720712, which covers the flatter rectangular sections used as flat-product feedstock, and the two are not interchangeable.
Applications
- Re-rolling into rebar, wire rod and merchant bar
- Section and structural long product manufacture
- Seamless tube and pipe production
- Forging stock for engineering components
