Semi-finished Steel
Slab-type semi-finished steel: rectangular other than square cross-section, containing by weight less than 0.25% carbon, and the feedstock for flat-rolled production.
Overview
HS 720712 covers semi-finished products of iron or non-alloy steel containing less than 0.25 per cent carbon, of rectangular cross-section other than square. The geometry is what separates it from HS 720711: a width substantially greater than the thickness, which is the slab form fed to hot strip mills and plate mills. Describing material under this code as billet is a customs and commercial error.
Applications
- Hot rolling into coil, strip and plate
- Flat product manufacture for fabrication and tube
- Re-rolling for structural plate applications
