Silicomanganese
A single addition delivering both silicon and manganese, widely used in long products and the workhorse alloy of rebar and construction steel.
Overview
Silicomanganese supplies silicon and manganese together, which simplifies ladle practice and reduces the number of separate additions. It deoxidises and alloys in one step and is typically the most cost-effective route to manganese where the steel grade also calls for silicon. Demand tracks construction and long product output more closely than other ferroalloys.
Applications
- Combined deoxidation and alloying in long products
- Rebar, wire rod and section steel production
- Flat carbon steel where both elements are specified
- Feedstock in the production of medium and low-carbon ferromanganese
